Winter Song
the sky has darkened
and the wind in the trees
laments the falling of the leaves
and high above me
like a pill like a seed
rolls the rabid eye of winter’s dream
i want you to hurt me
i want to know how it feels
to share a love that never heals
where you could nurse me
frail upon open seas
or you could dash my every dream
the moon abandoned
in its nest of pallid clouds
awaits the din of spring’s return
this star-crossed lover
by the sun ever spurned
and yet in who’s heart still longs to burn
