Leaving Well Enough Alone
well it’s hardly complete but it’s over
and then not before time
it’s quite a relief to discover
i’m still in one piece and alive
believe me
well i thought that i could forget you
i put you out of my mind
but i found you right where i left you
it seems you were there the whole time
leave me
i don’t know what you’re thinking
but find i want to know
i’m too far gone for leaving well enough alone
i’ve tried and tried to forget
and now i can hardly believe it myself
when i miss you
well i’m not here fishing for meaning
i’ve chased that whale once before
the wave we once rode now’s receding
and i’m just trying to make it ashore
believe me
